Christmas Songs You DON’T Know And Love

Hello everyone,

We have reached the most wonderful time of the year! It is Christmas time, and I am soaking it all in.

I have to do Christmas posts or I’d scream. SO here I am on the last day of November full of Christmas cheer.

Now by the time December 25th rolls around, we are all tired of The Christmas Song or Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Yes, I am too! But sadly many people don’t know there is so much more Christmas music out there.

I am not saying it is torture to listen to Bing Crosby and Alvin and the Chipmunks, but there is so much more variety out there to try!

I hope there is at least one song on my list below that you haven’t heard of.

Here we go!

A Baby Just Like You by John Denver

This is such a sweet song about a father singing to his son. John Denver wrote this song about his son Zachary. He wishes to give him a peaceful world full of love. You must give this darling song a listen.

Favorite lyric: And as the wise men came with gifts // I come with my gift too

Shepherd’s Song by Josh Garrels

Josh Garrels is a beautiful songwriter. His entire Christmas album, The Light Came Down, which this song is from, is so worth listening to! He connects how a mother shepherds her children to how Jesus would shepherd us into the new covenant with Him through the cross. It is absolutely beautiful!

Favorite lyric: But you will call them back one day // By the marks of pain and blood // Back to the arms of love // The good Father’s face above

Winter Song by Leslie Odom Jr. (feat. Cynthia Erivo)

Man, these two can sing! This duet is very beautiful and mesmerising. This one is from Leslie Odom Jr.’s new Christmas album. You might remember him from the fantastic musical Hamilton. 🙂

Favorite lyric: They say that things just cannot grow // Beneath the winter snow // Or so I have been told // They say were buried far // Just like a distant star // I simply cannot hold // Is love alive?

Pat-a-pan

This is a very old Christmas carol you probably haven’t heard of! It is actually exactly 300 years old! So happy birthday Pat-a-pan!

I’ll have 3 versions below 🙂

Favorite lyric: God and man today become // More in tune than fife and drum // So be merry while you play

Julie Andrews

Bing Crosby (This one is actually a medley with While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks By Night. There is actually a version on Veggietales for all my fans out there by Junior Asparagus you can find here!

David Archuleta

All Is Well by Michael W. Smith feat. Carrie Underwood

This is actually a very new one for me! A dear friend told me of this song. It is such a gift to enjoy new Christmas songs each year!

Favorite lyric: For tonight darkness fell // Into the dawn of love’s light

Baby Boy by For King and Country

Here is an original Christmas song by this brother duo. I love the lyrics to this one. The fact that Jesus came in the most human and unlikely way into the world shows how selfless His sacrifice truly was!

Favorite lyric: Oh, before that silent night // No Savior and no Jesus Christ // The world cried out so desperately // And the baby boy was the reply // Yes, heaven’s reply was a baby boy

Peace on Earth by The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

I grew up listening to this song so much, and I had to put it on the list. 🙂

Favorite lyric: The chains of sin and death are gone now // Oh, joy to the world, the Lord has come!

Christmas Carol by Newsong

This is another childhood favorite! It is not about the book by Charles Dickens if you were wondering.

It tells the story of a woman who loved Christmastime but her “mind was nearly gone”, but she came  alive with Christmas songs. Even as her mind deteriorated, her love for Christmas and its songs never dimmed.

I have no idea if it is based on a true story, but it is still a beautiful song on the connection and joy the Christmas season can give us.

Favorite lyric: And though she long ago // Forgot the names of family and friends // When it comes to singing Christmas songs // She’s like a child again.

Have a very happy Christmas season and go find all the other original Christmas songs out there!

  1. What a great post Kenedy! You listed some of my favorite songs! I will always cherish our moments in the car, and at home, listening and singing, ” Light of the World” by Brooklyn Tab… and remember “Happy Birthday Jesus” by them as well? I love Christmas time too! A time to celebrate our Savior, Lord, and Friend!
